5 ways to create a zen atmosphere

What is zen? How would you answer this question?
Zen is a method for rediscovering the experience of being alive. It is native to India and China and arrived in the West via Japan. The purpose of Zen is to bring about a transformation of consciousness and awaken us from the dream world of our endless thoughts so that we can experience life as it is in the present moment.
But then, when we apply it to interior decoration, what does it mean?
In the world of decoration, the Zen atmosphere embodies perfect harmony between the elements that make up a living space. There we find the principles of Feng Shui that I discussed in another blog article. The idea is to create an interior where you feel good, a balanced layout that promotes the circulation of positive energies.
Somehow our house is a reflection of ourselves. We see a lot of sites that are flourishing on interior decoration. For what? Because we are looking for harmony, beauty, a sanctuary of serenity. It's great but we forget that we have to find all this first inside ourselves!
That being said, living and focusing on a zen and serene environment can help us to look for it within ourselves. Zen is a philosophy of life, a state of mind, which can manifest itself even in your decor.
This can be achieved in different ways and that is what I suggest you explore in this article.
How to create a Zen atmosphere in 5 steps?
To create a haven of peace in your home, there is nothing better than respecting certain principles of Feng Shui:
1. Choose calming and soft colors, such as white, beige, gray and pastel tones. These are very pleasant and effective shades for creating a calm and serene atmosphere. Then, you can incorporate pops of brighter colors to create contrast.
2. Simplify: Do you feel comfortable in a messy room? Simplicity is at the heart of the Zen atmosphere. So, get rid of the excess, organize your space in an orderly manner and eliminate the clutter. Personally, I always do a bit of cleaning before starting my day. When the space is tidy and clean, my mind is much clearer to work.
3. Integrate natural elements: Natural materials like wood, stone, bamboo or rattan bring a Zen touch that I love. Add some green plants and you will have a really pleasant space. ,
4. Create soft, natural lighting: No need to invest in sophisticated lighting to achieve soft, natural lighting. If you have candles or light garlands it will do the trick very well and will be perfect for creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. On the other hand, absolutely avoid lighting that is too bright.
5. Create relaxation spaces: Depending on the space you have at home, if you have the possibility, try to create a small cozy space. What do we put there? Soft cushions, nice rugs, a Buddha painting, candles. In short, everything that will help you create a space dedicated to relaxation, reading, or meditation. A space where you will feel good and where you can recharge your batteries.
What colour for a Zen ambience?
The choice of color is quite personal. For example, I love light linen and taupe color. These are shades that remain discreet while being warm. And then you can contrast with a colored wall (for our part we fell for duck blue!).
However, there are shades that stand out in a Zen interior: neutral tones, shades of white, beige, gray and pastel colors.
White remains a very common color in Zen atmospheres but I'm not a fan. You might as well choose shades of beige and gray to create a neutral and calming base. In the bedroom, pastel tones such as light blue, pale green and soft pink can be good choices.
Choose colors that soothe you personally, as color perception can vary from person to person. The goal is to create an environment that promotes relaxation, meditation and well-being.
Which plant for a Zen atmosphere in the living room?
To create a Zen atmosphere and respect the principles of Feng Shui, several plants are particularly recommended. These plants bring positive energy, promote air purification and add a touch of nature to the space. Here are some plants suitable for a Zen atmosphere and Feng Shui:
• Bamboo for prosperity and growth.
• The Jade plant (Crassula ovata) to bring you luck.
• Sansevieria (Mother-in-law's tongue) to protect you and bring positive energy.
• Boston fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) for gentle, refreshing energy.
• An orchid for a life full of positive energy.
• Peace lily (Spathiphyllum) to eliminate pollutants.
• Ficus elastica (Elastic fig tree) for growth and prosperity.
• The Aloe Vera plant to attract good fortune.
Which essential oil for a Zen atmosphere?
Make way for essential oils! You can really use them in different ways to create a Zen atmosphere: by diffusing them in the air with a diffuser, adding a few drops to your relaxing bath, or as a massage lotion.
The advantage of essential oil diffusers is that they allow you to sanitize, refresh and perfume your room without overheating or burning the essential oils. Today we find them everywhere on the market and I am sure that you will find one with a Zen design that will match your interior.
Here are some essential oils that I suggest you try in your diffuser:
1. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia): There are basic essential oils to have at home and this is one of them! We definitely recognize its sweet and floral scent which helps us relax and relieve stress. Lavender is famous for its relaxing properties. Who validates?
2. Mandarin (Citrus reticulata): Here we have already tested it by putting a few drops on the wrist. This oil has a very pleasant sweet and fruity scent that helps calm the nerves and create a serene atmosphere. If you want to do a meditation or relaxation, a few drops in your diffuser and off you go.
3. Incense (Boswellia carterii): We certainly tend to use incense sticks or other. I would not personally have thought of using it as an essential oil but whatever the form, its calming and meditative properties remain the same.
4. Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata): What a captivating scent this ylang-ylang is! We immediately recognize the sweet floral scent which helps reduce stress. For lovers, a few drops in the diffuser during a romantic meal will help create the perfect atmosphere!
5. Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis): We naturally think of chamomile tea that we take in the evening before going to bed. It's the same with essential oil: it will help you calm the mind and promote sleep.
6. Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis): A bit like mandarin essential oil, here we find a sweet oil with a fresh and sweet scent. If you're feeling down, it can help you feel better and create a positive, relaxed atmosphere.
Of course, there are plenty of others. Don’t hesitate to share them with me in comments.
Adopt a zen deco
Adopting a Zen decor by integrating sacred geometry symbols, particularly on printed canvases, can add a spiritual and balanced dimension to your space. Here's how you can integrate these elements harmoniously:
Flower of Life: You love it so I couldn't not mention it! It is certainly the most emblematic symbol of sacred geometry. Whether as a printed canvas or wall sticker, it takes on its full meaning placed on a central wall. It fills your space with positive vibes. You won't be able to take your eyes off this splendor!
Mandala: Mandalas are complex geometric representations that evoke unity and harmony. Opt for a mandala-printed canvas in soft, soothing colors to create a meditative focal point in your space. You can hang this canvas over a meditation space or above a sofa to add an artistic touch.
Tree of Life: Choose a printed canvas or a Tree of Life wall sticker. You can opt for calming colors that match the zen atmosphere you want to create. The Tree of Life will help create a calm environment where you can recharge your batteries.
Zen decoration and Zen objects
Create a Zen style with candles and candle holders
These frosted glass tealight holders decorated with sacred geometry symbols are printed by us in our workshop.
Don't be fooled, they're bigger than they look! And you love them! The frosted glass brings elegance and modernism to these tealight holders. When you place your tea light there, the light diffuses gently and creates a soothing and intimate atmosphere. It's the perfect accessory to create a zen atmosphere in any space at home.
Sacred geometry symbols add a spiritual dimension. Each symbol carries a deep meaning, but above all beautiful positive energies which will spread throughout your space.
Zen atmosphere with suncatchers
Suncatchers, with their colored crystals or beads, capture natural sunlight and diffuse halos of light in the room. It’s a fascinating spectacle that we never tire of. This creates a visually calming, harmonious and spiritual atmosphere.
Especially since the incorporation of symbols like the flower of life, the Tree of Life or other sacred geometric shapes adds deep meaning. These symbols are a source of harmony, balance and spiritual connection. When you lay your eyes on the suncatcher, all your senses are awakened! And the play of light through the symbols amplifies positive energy.
Hang them near a window or in a space that allows natural light to pass through them and let the magic happen! Discover crystal suncatchers.

J aime le turquoise
Mandalashop - 09/26/2021 16:35:08
