The evil eye: what is it and how to protect yourself?

By : Veronique - Categories : Health and wellness

The evil eye: myth or reality? This belief in an evil power, capable of causing misfortune, is deeply rooted in our history. It is found in many traditions. But is it just a belief?

A brief look at history shows us that many peoples had as their main guiding principle the sense of protection. Whether it was to protect the group or the family, peoples sought to protect themselves from harmful energies of all kinds. means.

In this article I take you to discover the evil eye: what is it? How do we know if we have it? And above all how to protect yourself from it with rituals, talismans, or even prayers.

Whether you are curious or simply looking for concrete solutions to strengthen your protection, you are in the right place!

The evil eye meaning

The main idea that we can take away from the evil eye is that just by giving a malicious or envious look, a person can inflict misfortune or trouble on someone else.

Sometimes we talk about a murderous look, a look capable of attracting misfortune, illness or death. In history we find traces of the evil eye in the texts of Sumer, Babylon and Assyria. And let's not forget that in Europe, in the Middle Ages, witches were renowned for using the evil eye against anyone who had the misfortune to cross their path! Result: their victims were struck by various ailments, lost the love of their spouse or were thrown into poverty.

To protect against the evil eye, many cultures created amulets. These are special jewelry or symbols to protect against negative energy. For example, in Greece or Turkey there is the blue eye, which is a very popular talisman to repel the evil eye. It is found everywhere in souvenir shops.

There are also specific rituals to ward off the evil eye. For example, Italians make a horn-shaped hand gesture to ward off the evil eye. We can also burn sage or say special prayers. Each tradition has its customs.

Myth or reality?

For many people the concept of the evil eye is a somewhat far-fetched concept, which has no verifiable scientific basis. It is for this reason that it is considered a superstition in many modern societies. However, should we stop at that? to ignore it is to only attach oneself to the visible world. But there are really two worlds that coexist: the visible world and the invisible world.

Where many speak only of belief and superstition, the creative power of man and woman is completely neglected. A look, a gesture, a word are filled with magic (the soul that acts). The eyes have an unsuspected power. It is often through this organ that we take possession of a person.

In certain ancient traditions, such as in Africa, magic and witchcraft are part of everyday life. It has nothing to do with supernatural or other powers. This is simply a very real reality. There are wizards. They can be healers, spiritual advisors, but also people capable of harming others by casting spells.

What are the symptoms of evil eye

We are approaching a slightly more delicate subject because the symptoms attributed to a spell or the evil eye are often subjective and can be due to psychological causes. Sometimes we tend to create our own reality without looking at things as they really are. Sometimes we think we are victims of the evil eye when it is simply our own thoughts, our own way of living that are poisoning us. You see what I mean?

So the problems listed below should be taken with a grain of salt! You have to analyze each situation with a certain detachment.

• Bad luck or series of setbacks: financial problems, personal failures, accidents.

• Unexplained or persistent health problems: headaches, fatigue, body pain, etc.

• Insomnia or frequent nightmares.

• Family conflicts or relationship problems.

• Loss of appetite or eating disorders.

• Feeling of oppression or unease.

As I mentioned above, these symptoms are subjective and can have many explanations, including psychological, medical, social or environmental factors. If you believe you are under the influence of a spell or the evil eye and are concerned, I recommend that you consult either an exorcist, a mental health professional or a therapist to discuss your concerns.

We are all bewitched

The question of human freedom is a profound one. However, true freedom seems to reside solely in God, for we are often slaves to our ignorance. The education we receive often leads us down a path of enslavement. We are caught up in a system which, on the surface, unifies us, but in reality traps us, relegating individuality to the background.

God, enigmatic and elusive, is present in every aspect of our existence. In geometry, He is the basis of every construction; in mathematics, He is the "great unknown". God is everywhere, in every element of creation, underpinning its essence and perfection.

This world was created by God, and in itself it is perfect. However, we limit ourselves to its material, mortal dimension, ignoring the subtle worlds around us, populated by beings endowed with desires, wills and dreams. For these beings, humanity is an ideal tool for realizing their aspirations. They seek to influence us, to bewitch us, to lead us where they wish. Man, often unaware of this reality, prefers to ignore it or denigrate it as superstition. As a result, he walks through life in learned ignorance, depriving himself of the wisdom that would make him stronger and protect him from suffering.

Bewitchment manifests as the creation of a circle, a trap that imprisons a person's thoughts, emotions and will, leading them to believe that they think, feel and want for themselves.

Bewitchment can be individual or collective, and can spread like a virus. State power, supported by the media, can amplify this effect. Anti-Semitism in Germany in the mid-twentieth century is a notorious example.

Originally, man was part of a whole, a part of a larger organism, an instrument designed to perform a specific function. This required the birth of consciousness, discernment, and therefore freedom and choice, but also the risk of weakness.

Weakness is a trial that naturally accompanies the human function, with the temptation to fall and become bewitched. If man succumbs to this temptation, the instrument is diverted from its initial vocation to serve other purposes. Thus was born the human world, with its religions, philosophies, sciences and economy, often separated from the kingdom of God.

The terms "possession", "usurpation" and "bewitchment" derive from theancient symbol of the serpent that encircles man, locking him up and seizing his life, his destiny and what belongs to God within him.

How do you know if someone is working on you?

No matter how delusional or superstitious you may think you are, some people can be really malicious and may try to harm you. The reasons can be many and varied: jealousy, malice, etc. And sometimes, certain people who are themselves guided by powerful forces of evil, seek to reclaim your soul in order to be more powerful.

If you listen to your feelings and know how to be discerning, then you'll know that someone is working on you. You'll feel it within you as a matter of course, you'll have subtle perceptions.

How to get rid of an evil spell and remove the evil eye?

Purification rituals to ward off the evil eye

In many cultures, purification rituals are performed to remove suspected negative energy. This may include cleansing the house with herbs, incense or holy water.

If you'd like to perform a cleansing ritual, here's a general method you can follow:

Materials required:

• A bowl of water (preferably spring water or salt spring water)
• Salt (preferably sea salt)
• A white candle (or a purification candle)
• Purifying incense (like white sage or palo santo)
• A crystal or gemstone (such as amethyst or tourmaline, known for their ability to repel negative energies)
• A small piece of paper and a pen.
• A Pentacle of protection

Ritual steps:

Preparation is always an important step. Personally I consider it to be 50% of the work. If you prepare your ritual well, everything will go well afterwards. So, make sure you have all the necessary items at hand and know the different steps beforehand.

Important thing: choose a quiet place where you can perform the ritual without being disturbed, if possible when you are alone at home.   Take a few moments to center yourself and relax. You can do a little meditation or do some breathing or cardiac coherence exercises. The idea is to be clear, focused, and calm.

Take the piece of paper and write a clear, positive intention on it. For example, “I purify my space and eliminate all negative energy.”

Light the white candle and place it next to the bowl of water.

Light the incense (I recommend white sage, very effective in purifying) and let the smoke spread throughout the room. You can gently pass the smoke around you or the space you wish to purify.

Next, take the bowl of water in your hands and visualize the purifying white light surrounding it. Add a pinch of salt to the water while saying your intention out loud or internally. Imagine that the salt purifies the water and removes all negative energies. You will use this bowl of salt water to gently spray the corners of the room, especially dark, hidden corners, but also around windows and doors. Visualize the water absorbing all negative energies.

Take the gemstone in your hand and meditate on its protective energy. Pass it around you or the space to reinforce protection.

You can also place your photo in the center of a Pentacle of protection (and keep it even after the ritual)

To conclude the ritual, extinguish the candle and the incense. Thank the elements for their assistance in the ritual.
Consider destroying the piece of paper you wrote your intention on, either by burning it or tearing it into small pieces, symbolizing the release of negative energy.

Spell removal rituals

Spell-clearing rituals, often associated with religious beliefs and practices, are designed to remove influences perceived as negative or evil on a person.

In some cultures, healers, shamans, or spiritual practitioners are consulted to identify and remove bad spells. They may perform special rituals or prayers. These rituals are also performed by qualified people, such as priests or exorcists. I invite you to consult a professional who officiates in your religion or who has the same beliefs as you.

If you think you are bewitched or under the influence of evil forces and you wish to perform a disenchantment ritual, here is how to proceed:

1. Find a Qualified Priest or Exorcist: Look for a priest or exorcist recognized in your religious tradition. Make sure he is trained and competent to perform disenchantment rituals.

2. Preliminary consultation: Before beginning the ritual, you should meet with the priest or exorcist to discuss your situation. They may ask questions about your symptoms, beliefs and personal history.

3. Prayer and preparation: The disenchantment ritual generally begins with a period of prayer and meditation to ask for divine protection and spiritual help. The priest or exorcist may also use specific religious items and holy water.

4. Scripture reading and invocations: The priest or exorcist may read passages from the sacred scriptures or perform specific invocations to ask for release from negative influences.

5. Blessing and laying on of hands: The priest or exorcist may use ritual gestures, such as the laying on of hands, to drive away negative influences. They may also use sacred oil or holy water.

6. Personal purification: You can be active in the ritual by reciting prayers or participating in ritual acts of purification.

Once the ritual is complete, the priest or exorcist can advise you on how to maintain protection.

Talismans and amulets to protect against the evil eye

The history of amulets and talismans finds its roots in that of man. The need to entrust oneself to forces beyond reason and everyday life has so marked the lives of men that we find traces and testimonies of it as far back as we go back in history and time. All peoples, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Barbarians, have invoked the help of these objects. Often, we find the same forms in different cultures, without the slightest link between them.

Here are some examples of talismans and amulets known to protect against the evil eye:

Blue Eye (Nazar Boncuk): This is an amulet specially designed to repel the evil eye. Originally from Türkiye, Nazar is found in stores frequented by tourists. This is a lovely circular piece of blue glass, with additional glass dollops placed in a concentric circle of blue and white to represent the eye. Traditionally, the nazar is hung on windows or doors to repel unwanted influences.

Hand of Fatima (Khamsa or Hamsa): Amulets representing a hand are the most powerful that we know, but their meaning varies depending on the arrangement of the fingers and the palm. Fatma's hand has three, four, five and sometimes six outstretched fingers and holds a stone, blue or green, in the center of the palm. It comes from Morocco and brings luck. If the stone is shaped like an eye, it also protects against diseases.

Clover: It represents protection, fertility and abundance, and if brought into the house, it serves as a good luck charm to ward off witches. It is worn for the same reason.

Amethyst: It can be said that it is the best amulet known in the entire history of humanity. Nothing can compare to its power and effectiveness. Its strength is such that it is considered to bring good luck to anyone who wears it, whatever the situation.

The Triskelion: Symbol composed of three spirals, is used in Celtic culture as a symbol of protection. It is sometimes worn as jewelry or used in home decoration.

The scarab: Its origin, like that of all representations of this animal, is Egyptian. It is a universal talisman and its power is general. The beetle is protective and brings luck, and it strengthens the will. In Egypt, its use was not limited to the living, since scarabs of all sizes were found in tombs whose function was to protect sacred mummies.

The horseshoe: The horseshoe is one of the most powerful amulets and, therefore, one of the best known and most effective. Its popularity undoubtedly comes from its shape and the fact that iron is the most active metal against the evil eye. The power of iron is such that, in the past, when people wanted to chase a witch from a region, they threw a horseshoe into the fire, because it was believed that the heat released would keep evil spirits away.

The Pentacle: This symbol is used as a symbol of protection and power. It is often worn as a pendant or hung on the wall to counter evil spirits and harmful influences.

Evil eye jewellery to ward off the evil eye

Evil eye jewelry, adorned with protective symbols, is popular in many cultures around the world. These jewels are often worn as amulets to ward off negative energies and the Evil Eye.

When choosing a piece of jewelry with a protective symbol against the Evil Eye, make sure you understand its meaning and cultural origin. Wear it with positive intent, believing in its symbolic power to protect you from negative influences.

Meditation and visualization

Some people use meditation and visualization to rid themselves of negative energy. By focusing on positive thoughts and getting rid of harmful ones, they hope to change their energetic state.

Prayers and invocations for protection against the evil eye

Here's a simple example of a prayer for protection against the evil eye. You can recite it with sincerity and faith to ask for spiritual protection:

Prayer for protection against the evil eye:

"O Divine Power who watches over me,
I stand humbly before You,
I ask You today, in all faith,
To protect me against the evil eye, O King.

May Your divine love and light,
Flood my soul and inclined being,
To repel all evil influence,
And preserve my life, O Vast.

May Your shield of protection surround me,
May negative energies turn away,
May the evil eye be unable to touch me,
Please, O Divinity, come and save me.

With gratitude and trust, I ask You,
To watch over me, O Great Power,
Keep me from envious and malevolent gazes,
And may Your love be my shield, constant.

So be it."

Remember that faith and sincerity are important when reciting a prayer of protection. You can personalize this prayer or create one that reflects your own spiritual beliefs and connection with the divine. The key is to ask for protection and to do so with positive intent.

Consulting a mental health professional

If you are experiencing severe emotional or psychological symptoms, it is essential to consult a mental health professional. They can help you assess your concerns and provide appropriate support.

A final word

You must know that you are never alone, whatever you do in life, there are worlds within you and around you that partner with you. Hence the importance of being aware and responsible for our words, our feelings and our actions. Because if we unconsciously cultivate bad associations, we attract harmful surroundings which will lead us to ruin. On the other hand, if we maintain a living, conscious, pure link with what is beneficial, positive, true in life, we will be able to unite more and more with higher worlds which will lead us into greater protection and more great capacity to act with wisdom and intelligence.

Unfortunately, there will always be people with bad intentions who want to harm you and who will seek to destroy you, to destroy your light. To do this they will use all the means at their disposal: black magic, spells, calling on sorcerers. It's a reality. And I'm in a good position to tell you about it because it's already happened to me.

So, yes, it is important to protect yourself and call on competent people to help you when necessary.

Preserve your Light capital as the precious treasure of life.
