Chakra meditation: balancing your energy for optimal well-being
The physical body, already very complex, which doctors know, constitutes only a very small part of the human being in its real totality. Eastern sciences emphasize the existence of three bodies (the physical body: visible; the astral body: invisible and the causal body: invisible) vibrating at different rates. In the middle of these three bodies, the Chakras (wheels, centers) act as relays, energy transformers and doors of consciousness.
Chakra meditation is a practice of balancing and harmonizing these energy centers in your body.
In this very comprehensive article you will discover how to meditate on the chakras with a very simple basic technique.
And if you wish to continue the exploration, we offer a meditation on each of the main chakras.
For each chakra we offer you different supports which are suggestions to help you in your visualization and meditation. Please note that we create and print each symbol and each color on different media.
You can harmonize your throat chakra very well by drinking your tea or coffee every morning from your blue Fleur de Vie mug.
But also during the day you can focus on a harmonizing disk or a mouse pad (if you are in the office) of the color of the chakra you wish to harmonize.
And you can harmonize one or more chakras by positioning yourself on a harmonizing mat or practice meditation at home by concentrating on a printed canvas.
Listen to your feelings to make your choice
What are the 7 chakras and what do they mean?
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “vortex” or “energy center”. These centers have the property of transforming and redistributing the energy that passes through them. Our body has 7 main chakras.
1st Chakra, Root (red color): Located at the base of the spine and pelvic floor. It governs anchoring, survival, security, stability, protection and the feeling of security, connection with the physical world and the body.
2nd Chakra, Sacral (orange color): Located between the navel and the pubic bone in the lower abdomen. It governs the emotional center of the energy system, creativity, sexual energy. This chakra will take a hit with feelings of guilt, shame, grief and anger.
3rd Chakra, Solar Plexus (yellow color): Located between the bottom of the rib cage and the navel. It governs personal power, will, personal energy, authority, metabolism and control of desire.
4th Chakra, Heart (green/pink color): Located in the center of the chest. It governs unconditional love of self and others, forgiveness, compassion, giving and receiving.
5th Chakra, Throat (blue color): Located at the base of the throat. It governs true communication, speaking your truth, creative expression.
6th Chakra, Third Eye (indigo color): Located in the center of the forehead. It governs intuition, imagination, consciousness and concentration.
7th Chakra, Crown (purple/white color): Located just above the crown of the head. It governs spiritual connection, divine wisdom and understanding.
How to meditate on the chakras
How to align your chakras yourself? Basic meditation technique
Practicing chakra meditation helps you connect your inner energy to the environment and the universe. The concept is simple. You should mentally focus on one chakra at a time while you meditate. An important note is that you will not see an instant change in your body because it is not a magic wand. When meditation becomes a life habit, you will begin to notice changes.
Chakra meditation brings many benefits:
• Preserves the brain from aging: better memory, concentration
• Relief from stress, depression. Reduces symptoms of panic and anxiety. Relaxation and inner peace.
• Reduces the risk of stroke; reduces back pain, reduces blood pressure, prevents Alzheimer's disease.
• Controls anger or self-confidence, helps stop addiction, sadness.
• Healthier relationships, successful communication.
Before starting chakra meditation or any other type of meditation, it is important to prepare everything in order to have a clear mind and a fruitful experience without interruption.
1. Choose the right time: the right time is when you are most relaxed.
Duration should not be the main objective but rather consistency. Since meditation is essentially a workout, you can start with a short 10-minute meditation, but do your best to maintain it daily.
2. Choose the right place: Find yourself a place where you can be comfortable and without being interrupted or disturbed in your practice.
3. Posture: Although meditation is fundamentally a mental process, posture is important because it provides the mind with total relaxation throughout the process:
- Simply sit in a cross-legged position.
- Keep your spine straight as an arrow.
- Rest your hands, relax your shoulders.
- Relax your facial muscles and open your jaw slightly.
- Let your gaze blur or close it.
- Scan your body to make sure every part is relaxed and resolve any physical tension by changing your posture.
4. Concentration: People might confuse meditation with deep silence and peace of mind. Basically, meditation is not deep sleep or complete shutdown, but rather an active mind requiring considerable effort to achieve a particular state of concentration. Meditation is about focusing on the present. To help you, we have several tools to offer you. I talk about this in the following sections.
5. Breathing: Most people breathe only through their chest. They only use their upper chest when they inhale, meaning they only use a fraction of their full breathing capacity. For good breathing, practice abdominal breathing. How to do ? Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose. Feel the abdomen expand while the chest is still. Exhale slowly. Feel the abdomen sinking. Repeat the process ten times (one inhale and one exhale counts as one breath.
6. Meditation aids: Some accessories can help you improve the quality of your meditation. It could be a scented candle, or music. You can also dim or turn off the lights for better concentration. There are also many websites and apps that offer unique music to help you relax and meditate.
7. Tips: Consistency and patience are key. You may master the techniques quickly, but achieving concentration and a peaceful mind takes time. Regular practice over a prolonged period is essential to obtain excellent results. If you want to get something out of meditation, you need to make it an integral part of your day and your life.
Now that you're ready, let's get started!
Root chakra meditation: regaining stability and security
This chakra is linked to courage and security, so fear is an important blockage of the root chakra. Another way to tell if the root chakra is blocked is if you feel anxious or agitated. Additionally, lack of discipline or financial instability are other signs. Very disorganized people may also lack energy flow through the root chakra.
Since the root chakra is closely related to the color red, having anything red around you will help open this chakra. Wearing red and focusing on red objects will trigger the flow of energy to this chakra. Red gemstones (like garnet, ruby, and bloodstone) are also known to help open this chakra.
Meditation: Close your eyes and focus on your breathing to clear out all the mental clutter going on in your head. Once you are in a relaxed meditative state, focus on moving the energy up through the soles of your feet, through your legs and up to the base of your spine, where the root chakra is located.
You can also, with each inhale, imagine the energy transforming into a bright red ball of energy. With each breath, the ball of energy gets bigger and bigger and begins to rotate clockwise.
Try looking at what fear may be blocking your root chakra. Think about your fears, break them down into logical explanations and let go.
Continue to focus on one until you really feel the energy at the base of your spine. Once you feel this, the root chakra is open.
Positive Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to the root chakra. For example, “I am safe”, “I am stable”, “I am anchored in the present moment”. Let these affirmations resonate within you, strengthening your connection to the root chakra.
Sacral chakra meditation: cultivating creativity and emotional balance
Blockage of this chakra will result in poor social skills, fear of sex, lack of desire, passion and excitement, and forgoing pleasure. On the other hand, if the sacral chakra is hyperactive, this can lead to beings who are manipulative and obsessed with sexual thoughts.
Ways to open and balance your sacral chakra include wearing, looking at, or eating anything colored. Watching emotional or exciting movies can also be beneficial for opening this chakra. If you are familiar with crystal healing, wearing any orange gemstone, such as amber, citrine, topaz, carnelian or coral, is considered a very effective way to heal this chakra.
Meditation: Close your eyes and focus on your breathing to clear out all the mental clutter going on in your head. Once you enter this meditative state, focus on the energy rising through your feet and the left hand below, its palm touching the backs of the fingers of the right hand through your root chakra, then up at your navel. The tips of the thumbs gently touch each other.
Focus on your breathing and imagine a ball of orange energy forming under your belly button that gets bigger and bigger with each deep breath. The orange ball of energy will begin to swirl clockwise and you will feel a slight tingling in your lower abdomen and lower back, where the chakra is located.
Remember that this chakra is blocked by guilt and shame. Forgive yourself and let go of what overwhelms your soul with shame and blame.
Keep working on this until you really feel the energy. It feels like a tingle or maybe a buzz of energy running through you. Having a balanced sacral chakra contributes to sexual confidence, but also to self-confidence in general. This allows you to freely express yourself and your emotions. When this chakra is open, we tend to live with a lot of passion and aim to live life to the fullest!
Positive Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to the sacral chakra. For example, “I accept and release my emotions”, “My creativity flourishes freely”, “I am in harmony with my bodily sensations”.
Solar plexus chakra meditation: cultivating confidence and vitality
When the solar plexus chakra is blocked or imbalanced, you may feel a lack of confidence. You may feel confused and concerned about what others think of you. You might even end up feeling like others control your life and become depressed. An imbalance in this chakra can also lead to liver, digestive and respiratory problems.
Since the solar plexus chakra is closely related to the color yellow, wearing yellow clothing, looking at yellow things, and eating yellow fruits and vegetables will help open this chakra. Gemstones associated with the solar plexus chakra are
tiger's eye, yellow tourmaline and yellow topaz. Any type of physical exercise is good for the solar plexus chakra.
Meditation: To meditate on the solar plexus, focus on your breathing and bring the energy up from the ground and through your feet and legs. Pass it through your root and sacral chakras first, then allow it to reside in your upper abdomen, where the third chakra is located.
You can also imagine a ball of yellow energy forming in this area, growing larger with each deep breath. Focus on the energy spinning clockwise and getting bigger and bigger until you feel a slight tingling in your upper abdomen.
As mentioned previously, this chakra is blocked by not accepting yourself and doubting your skills. Bring your attention to any part of your character that you are unhappy with or any part of your past that you cannot accept, then try to let go and accept who you are. Once open, you will feel cheerful and outgoing. You will enjoy taking on new challenges and will have a strong sense of personal power. The open solar plexus chakra helps you feel bold, confident, and able to take risks. “This chakra is the chakra of the leader, the explorer and the charismatic.
Affirmations of Trust
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to self-confidence. For example, “I am worthy of success”, “I believe in my abilities”, “I stand in my power”.
Heart chakra meditation: cultivating love and compassion
People with blocked heart chakras lack empathy and are afraid of intimacy and relationships. You may feel alone, unloved, afraid of rejection, and afraid of being alone if this chakra is closed or blocked. However, an excessive heart chakra can cause you to be manipulative and act excessively.
To heal and open the heart chakra, work on reaching out to others and connecting with family and friends. Have sincere and open communications with more hugs. Taking a hike in nature or planning a romantic date will help energy flow to this chakra.
This chakra is closely related to the color green, so wearing green clothing, meditating on green things, eating green foods, and surrounding yourself with green plants will help open this chakra. Gemstones associated with the heart chakra are rose quartz, emerald, jade, malachite.
Meditation: Put yourself in a meditative state by focusing on your breathing as explained previously. Once you have entered this meditative state, focus on moving the energy up through your body.
Imagine a ball of green energy forming in your chest area. This energy grows and flows through your feet and through your previous chakras. The ball of energy will get bigger and bigger and spin clockwise with each deep breath you take.
Focus on thoughts of love and compassion. Let go of everything that troubles your soul and causes it sorrow and pain. Try to understand that every loss is the beginning of a new love. Pay attention to people who care about you and develop those feelings for them. Enjoy the light and relief that will fill you after opening this chakra.
Positive Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to love and compassion. For example, “I am open to love”, “I cultivate compassion towards myself and others”, “My heart is filled with light and kindness”.
Throat chakra meditation: releasing authentic expression
People with blocked throat chakras are often shy and isolated. What could also block your chakra is not accepting certain truths about yourself. Your real problem is admitting certain facts about yourself. “The throat chakra is blocked by the lies we tell ourselves.”
To heal and open the throat chakra, sing loudly and speak freely without fear. Sing in the shower, don't be afraid to express yourself.
The throat chakra is linked to the color blue, so wearing blue, focusing on blue, or eating blue foods will help open and unblock this chakra. Gemstones that help heal the throat chakra are aquamarine, sapphire, blue tourmaline and sodalite.
Meditation: Put yourself in a relaxed, meditative state by focusing on your deep breathing. Once you are in a relaxed meditative state, focus on bringing energy up through your feet with each inhale. Flow the energy through each of your previous four chakras and up to your throat.
With each deep breath, imagine blue energy flowing around your throat and growing larger and larger. Breathe out all negativity and blockages from the throat and replace them with vibrant blue energy.
Next, bring your attention to the lies you continue to tell yourself or just the truths you continue to deny. Release your denial of the lies you tell yourself and feel free and not afraid to express yourself to others. You may feel the muscles in your throat relax and even burp. This is completely normal. Focus on breathing the energy into your throat for as long as you feel the need and until your throat is open and relaxed. You have now successfully opened the fifth chakra.
Positive Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to your authentic expression. For example, “I speak with confidence and clarity”, “My expression is true and powerful”, “I dare to share my thoughts and ideas”.
3rd eye chakra meditation: cultivating intuition and mental clarity
An unbalanced third eye can cause fatigue, problems sleeping, an inability to listen to others, and can make you feel disoriented. A blocked third eye can also lead to poor vision and memory, difficulty visualizing, and difficulty remembering dreams. On the other hand, excessive energy flow to the third eye can cause hallucinations, nightmares, obsessions, delusions, difficulty concentrating and can even cause headaches.
The third eye is related to the color indigo or dark purple, so wearing dark purple clothing, focusing on this color, and eating purple foods will help heal the third eye. Gemstones known to help this chakra are amethyst, azurite and tanzanite.
Meditation: Put yourself in a calm, relaxed meditative state. Next, begin to focus on the energy rising through your feet with each inhale. Bring this energy up through each of the points of the previous five chakras, before focusing the energy on your third eye in the center of your forehead.
With each inhale, imagine a ball of purple energy growing larger and larger where the third eye is located. With each exhale, release any negativity or blockages that may be associated with your third eye.
Bring your thoughts to the illusions you have about yourself or the world around you. Free yourself from these illusions. Continue this pattern until you feel a tingling or warm sensation in the center of your forehead. Once this happens, your third eye is now healed and opened, and you can move on to the seventh and final chakra; Crown chakra.
Intuition Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations linked to your intuition. For example, “I trust my inner voice”, “My intuition is my reliable guide”, “I listen carefully to the signals from my third eye”.
Crown chakra meditation: spiritual connection and transcendence
Someone who has a closed or blocked crown chakra will be cynical toward spirituality. People who have excessive energy flow to this chakra, however, seem addicted to spirituality, confused, and dissociate from their physical body. An imbalance in this chakra will make your life path more difficult and bumpy since you will lack direction and focus. These people are bored, frustrated and lacking in joy.
To open and heal the crown chakra, one must establish a physical, emotional and spiritual connection. Enter a zone of silence without distractions and allow yourself to listen to the sound of the universe. Connect with yourself through yoga, meditation and contemplation. The colors associated with the crown chakra are white and purple. Dress or focus on these colors to strengthen this chakra. Gemstones that facilitate crown opening are diamonds and clear quartz.
Meditation: Start with breathing meditation to put yourself in a meditative state. You will need to make sure you open the other 6 chakras to be able to open this one as well. Now focus on bringing energy up through your feet and through each of the previous six chakras.
Focus by placing the energy slightly above the crown of your head and imagine a ball of white light forming, growing larger and larger with each deep breath you take. Give yourself time to focus on this ball of energy until you can begin to feel it.
Begin to detach yourself from the physical world and everything that burdens your soul with earthly attachments. Free yourself and connect to your best self and higher self or cosmic energy. At this point you may forget your sense of being physical and will feel the energy coursing through your being. When the ball of energy is large enough and you feel a slight tingling on the top of your head, let the energy spread throughout your body. Surround yourself entirely with white light. Imagine it flowing from the top of your head and covering your entire body, where it flows back through you from the bottom of your feet. Your chakras are now all open, balanced and aligned. You are pure energy radiating throughout your body.
Spiritual Affirmations
Mentally repeat positive affirmations related to your spiritual connection. For example, “I am one with the universe”, “My consciousness rises to higher levels”, “I am open to spiritual guidance”.
Chakra harmonization and alignment : the impact on daily life
Each chakra governs particular organs, glands and areas of the body. The chakras also correspond to the emotional, mental and spiritual parts of a being. Each chakra is part of the entire energy system. They are never really separated from each other.
The quality and flow of energy in each chakra varies from person to person and will never be the same from one day to the next. Trauma, illness, stress, excitement, all aspects of life will alter the energy system, but for optimal health all must be balanced.
Harmonizing your chakras brings many benefits for your health and your overall well-being:
• Emotional balance
• Mental clarity
• Improved communication
• Self-confidence
• Creativity and expression
• Spiritual awareness
• Vital energy
• Improved relationships
The final word
Knowledge of the chakras for healing and enlightenment is ancient wisdom – wisdom that has been known in many ancient cultures for centuries. The more recent interest in the chakras is because we are increasingly beginning to feel that focusing solely on our physical health does not bring us complete well-being. Despite the many advances in modern medicine, something still seems to be missing or “wrong,” even if we can't put our finger on it.
What if you learned that many of the physical symptoms we experience (except for events like car accidents and other direct physical trauma) could be avoided, simply because many of our physical symptoms are expressions of what has not been processed in the energy body?
When our chakras are in balance, our lives are in perfect harmony and our health is good. If a chakra becomes blocked, we will end up experiencing emotional distress or illness. Because everything is energy, when we heal and maintain the health of our energetic body – through modalities like acupuncture, Reiki, meditation, yoga and qi gong, among others – and make better style choices of living and eating, we actually heal problems that may arise before they manifest in the physical body.
Chakra meditation offers a powerful way to balance the main chakras. So, if you have put these meditation exercises into practice, tell me in the comments!
